Red Brick Art Museum, Beijing
September 11 – October 21, 2018
An exhibition organised by the Foundation for Art and Culture, Bonn in cooperation with the Red Brick Art Museum, Beijing. With the generous support of Volkswagen Group China.
Photoartist Andreas Mühe is to present his first solo show in China: The renowned Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing will be exhibiting some 70 works from across all his creative phases and cycles over the past 15 years, including new works, which are on display in a museum exhibition for the first time.
Mühe’s photographs are informed by a theatrical and dramaturgical aesthetic perception. In this exhibition, the artist weaves a narrative of his native country, affording a highly nuanced and associative insight into Germany of the past and the present day. Mühe’s themes range from cultural identity, political history to current societal realities, drawing frequently on famous iconographic motifs from the world of art and contemporary history. And by virtue of his often hyperbolic and staged presentations, he forges an ostensibly familiar visual world, which, only at second glance, reveals the manipulative and critical character of the work. Stylistically, his images are distinguished by their superb technical craftsmanship and precision and compelling visual language.
