BERNAR VENET – ARC ’89
On June 5, 2016, the Federal Minister of Justice Heiko Maas unveiled Bonn’s latest landmark to the public: Bernar Venet’s monumental sculpture “ARC ´89”, on the B9/Museumsmeile intersection in front of the Bundeskunsthalle.
“No one can ignore this work of art”, commented Maas in his inaugural address, adding that the controversies fuelled by erecting such a work in the public space are the primary objective of art. “Everyone will form an opinion. And in a wider sense, this is precisely what we need in these times.”
