Large-format canvases by David Schnell (born 1971), the acclaimed painter and graphic artist of the “New Leipzig School”, form the heart of the exhibition being staged from March 2017 in the MKM, which traces Schnell’s artistic development over the past decade. Employing a central linear perspective, his interlocking landscape visions recall the imploding virtual cyberspaces of computer games. By virtue of the ever emerging vanishing points hurtling deep into the image, the viewer experiences an increasing sense of placelessness and timelessness, which reveals itself to be a perfectly executed abstract construct.
